Psna star leadership institute

Dear PONL Colleagues,

In the past, The Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA) sought PONL’s assistance in identifying mentors for their Star Leadership Institute program.  In this six-month long program, experienced nurse leader mentors were matched with newer nurse leaders/aspiring nurse leader mentees. Feedback from PONL members who acted as mentors was very positive.  The Star Leadership program stopped for a few years and has now been entirely redone and revitalized.

Once again, PONL is working with PSNA to “spread the word” about the Star Leadership Institute and to seek nurse leaders from our membership who would be willing to act as mentors.  Additionally, tell your colleagues and staff about applying to be a mentee in this outstanding program!

The preferred (but not absolute) criteria for mentors includes:

• 10 years nurse leadership experience
• Star Leadership Institute graduate
• Member of PSNA
• Availability to attend mentor orientation and virtual program events and meet with mentee 1-2 hours/per month

Approximate time requirements are:

• Attend a pre-Institute virtual mentor training: date/time TBD, approximately 1.5 hours. 
• Attend the Institute virtual classes: October 21 – 22, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm each day (not required). 
• Check-in with your mentee at least once per month to provide guidance throughout the completion of your mentee’s Health Impact Project: October 2022- April 2023 (minimum of 6 times); mentors and mentees will determine the dates/times that work best for their schedules.
• Attend the Health Impact Project presentations on April 21, 2023 at the Hotel Bethlehem (not required).
